Building Capacity and Quality Assurance for Doctoral Education


During their visit, the Moldovan HEREs representatives concluded that the national doctoral education reform which started in 2014 aligns closely with the European doctoral education framework. For the Degree of Doctor the third-cycle student shall demonstrate learning outcomes which are fulfilled through both coursework and thesis work and include three main dimensions:  

  • Knowledge and understanding
  • Competence and skills
  • Judgment and approach

During one of the activities, participants from 29 countries had an opportunity to network and discuss their countries challenges in doctoral education, including presentation of the quality assurance problems, funding doctoral research and research infrastructure, national minimal PhD standards and attestation, importance of teaching supervisors, funding mechanism, mobility of students, quality and motivation of the enrolled doctoral students and their supervisors.
