The European Union Programme for students Erasmus+ turns 30 years old this year. On this occasion, the National Erasmus+ Office in Moldova and the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova organized an anniversary event that presented the opportunities and celebrated the achievements of this program in the field of higher education in Moldova.
The celebration ceremony entitled "ERASMUS + a story of 30 years" took place at Palatul Republicii on May 18th and brought together about 300 representatives from various Moldovan higher education institutions - students, academics and managers, beneficiaries of the Erasmus+ Programme at different stages.
In Moldova, the program has been running for 23 years and during this time it has generated over 90 impactful projects in universities. In addition to that, over 1000 students and teachers had the opportunity to go on an international academic mobility in EU universities. During the anniversary event, the most successful Erasmus+ projects implemented within the Moldovan universities, were showcased.
The head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Pirkka Tapiola, remarked that this anniversary is very important for the Erasmus+ Programme, for Moldova, but also for the European Union. Present at the event, the Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, mentioned that the project has become an international European brand and an efficient cooperation platform. In the Republic of Moldova, the project determined the qualitative and structural change of the higher education and its integration into the European space.
Over the years, the Erasmus+ Programme has had a major impact on the development of higher education in the Republic of Moldova through the Tempus, Erasmus-Mundus, Jean Monnet, Capacity Building for Universities and the International Credit Mobility projects.
